Session 8: Pathophysiology of Dental and Oral disorders
In General, the overall changes in the case of Dental problems will be more prominent in the Dental region. The physiological consequences may be due to the bacteria present in the cavities which slowly tends to involve in the breakdown and degradation of the teeth. Mutans Streptococci is the common bacteria which is present in the cavities and thus during its process of breaking down of the teeth, it releases an acid which can be harmful to the body at an increased extent of the release. Imaging in Dentistry generally involves the Digital Radiography which like the principle of Common X-ray imaging. The types of Dental Radiographs are periapical, panoramic and cephalometric where the small x-ray films are placed between the teeth. 2-Dimensional images are used commonly but since the depth of the structures are not identified 3D images are preferred nowadays which gives the accurate measurement of the depth and width of the tooth.
