It deals with the removal, correction, and replacement of decayed, damaged, or lost parts of the teeth including operations such as the filling and crowning of teeth, the straightening of teeth, and the construction of artificial dentures. Dental Health also known as Oral Health, covers the overall health conditions of the teeth, gums, pulp and dental tissue. It is concerned with promoting health of an entire population and focuses on an action at a community level, rather than at an individual clinical approach.
The field of clinical research in dentistry has undergone tremendous growth and development over the last few years. Treatment of different dental disorders, comparing the efficiency of the treatment and the comfort of the patient which can be done to identify the ideal treatment for the corresponding dental condition through clinical researches. Clinical dental trials are used to identify the most compatible biomaterials which are used in orthodontics, periodontics and endodontics. It also improves the quality of the dental products which is used for the patients.
Orthodontics, the dental speciality which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of dental deformities as well as irregularities of the teeth in the relationship of the lower to the upper jaw. It helps in correcting the tooth position and alignment which can improve the facial appearances. Dental complications such as missing teeth, crowded teeth and broken teeth can be reconstructed by using orthodontics products. Dentofacial orthopedics is a process of balancing the growth of a patient’s bone structure and repairing any imbalances of the face and jaws. The discipline of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics practice include interpretation, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion and other defects of the evolving or established orafacial structures.
Session on: Endodontics
Endodontics also known as root canal therapy is a dental procedure intended to treat infection or irreversible inflammation of the nerve of a tooth. Endodontics research and practice covers the biology of the normal pulp, crown, root and peri-radicular tissues and the prevention, interpretation and treatment of diseases and injuries that affect these tissues. Endodontic treatment is done to protect the teeth from diseased dental pulp.
Session on: Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry which deals with the replacement of missing teeth by dental prosthetics. Prosthodontics focuses on the diagnosis and treatment planning of patients with complex dental needs and on providing treatment benefits that mainly includes the restoration or replacement of natural teeth with a range of fixed or removable prosthetic options. Prosthodontics has developed into its current form through the gradual assimilation of various distinct areas of dental practice.
The social recognition of implants in dentistry has shown a dramatic increase in recent years. Dental implant is an artificial material that is inserted into the jawbone or the periosteum by an invasive method, and one that can be used as a substitute for teeth. The purpose of a dental implant is to act as a support for a prosthetic device, similar to a natural tooth root and crown. Dentures are replacements for missing teeth and can be removed and recouped into the mouth. A dentures helps to improve the look and smile.

The supporting tissues are known as the periodontium, which comprises of gingiva, alveolar bone, cementum, and the periodontal ligament. Periodontists treat cases ranging from mild gingivitis to more severe periodontitis, such as scaling and root planning, root surface debridement, and regenerative procedures. Periodontists can also perform surgical procedures for patients gum disease.

Dental cosmetics are proven to be an important highlight in dental health care.
Nanotechnology is widely used in our day to day life including its use in medicine. Nano dentistry is the latest advent in dentistry field with the introduction of nanoparticles and nanomaterials. Nanomaterials further deliver oral fluid or medications, preventing and curing some oral disease and manage oral health care up to a high extent. The potential impact of Nano dentistry applications in disease diagnosis, therapy and prevention is expected to change oral health care in a fundamental way.
Session on: Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric Dentistry is unlike any other dental specialty in that it covers all aspects of oral health care for children such as restorative care (including endodontic treatment and prosthetics), minor oral surgery procedures, and interceptive orthodontics. Thus, unusual eating habits, improper tooth structures, and milk tooth during their childhood can be improved by consulting the pediatric dentist regularly to avoid improper alignment of the teeth. This also includes educating the parents about nutritional diets for the children.
Session on: Sports Dentistry

Oral cancer is mainly caused by smoking, drinking, chewing tobacco, hereditary, mutation of genes and human papilloma virus. Removal of the cancerous cells can be decided based on the stage of the cancer cells. Treatment methods such as tumour resection are preferred for the removal of the tumour region.
Oral biology and oral pathology are fields of specialized dental research concerned with the study of the mouth and oral diseases. Oral biology refers to the study of the mouth and related tissues while oral pathology is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the mouth and oral tissues. An oral pathologist investigates the causes of diseases influencing or modifying oral structures such as teeth, lips, cheeks, jaws, portions of the face and neck. Oral pathologists perform biopsy dissection and then do a microscopic analysis of biopsy samples using stains. Oral biology and pathology are of a wide variety and play an important role in the day to day life.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery involves diagnosis, surgery and treatment of defects, injuries and diseases mainly in the hard and soft oral tissues, head, neck, face and maxillofacial region. Functions of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon may include dental replacements, jaw, oral and facial tumour diagnosis and removal, jaw and facial bone alignment, jaw reconstruction, etc. Technology in the field of radiology is changing so quickly that practitioners like oral and maxillofacial radiologists are pioneers in a constantly evolving field of practice. It’s an exciting and growing specialty for dental students to consider.
Session on: Preventive Dentistry
Preventive Dentistry is the practice for offering you some help with keeping a strong tooth. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear and other oral health related problems. Session on: Holistic Dentistry
Holistic Dentistry is the field of dentistry which will promote dental health and wellness instead of the treatment of dental diseases. It is often referred to as biological dentistry, which is an alternative approach that focuses on the use of non-toxic restorative materials for dental work and emphasizes the unrecognized effect that dental toxins and dental infections may have on the overall health of a person. Holistic dentists follow natural treatments to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity.
Session on: Dental Nursing
Dental Nursing is the field of dentistry which involves the process of treatment and surgeries as much as the dentist does. The support provided for the patient by the dental nurse will be extended to the dentists and dental technicians for supporting them during the course of treatment, setting up of dental treatment instruments and making the patient area sterile and hygiene.
Properly sterilized and quality dental instruments play a major role in providing effective dental treatment. This includes the usage of dental drill, dental scalps and fixation screws, sickle probs and many more. Devices such as effective lighting and imaging will increase the treatment of the patient.
Session on: Dental Biomaterials
Dental biomaterials combine the natural tissues and biocompatible engineered materials that are used to repair rotted, damaged or cracked teeth. In order to treat the dental tissue, distinctive kinds of dental biomaterials were developed. Biomaterials should have the qualities of soundness and biocompatibility to change in the oral condition. Different types of dental biomaterials have been used and its characteristics vary according to their intended purpose.
