Oral and maxillofacial pathology
Oral biology and oral pathology are branches of dentistry that specialise on the study of the mouth and oral illnesses. Oral biology is concerned with the study of the mouth and its associated tissues, whereas oral pathology is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the mouth and oral tissues. An oral pathologist researches the causes of illnesses that affect or change oral structures such as teeth, lips, cheeks, jaws, face, and neck. Oral pathologists use stains to undertake microscopic study of biopsy samples after performing diagnostic assay dissection. Oral biology and pathology are diverse fields that play an important role in everyday life.
